This.
A good sense of humor during a 6 hour darkroom session is essential.

Beautiful evening light in the MPD.
Walking through Brooklyn Bridge park I was amazed at how vacant it was. Generally the place is packed with sunbathers, kids, wedding groups, and tourists.
I was grateful for having the space to myself on that hazy evening, and walked into this massive vacant lot, the shell of a former industrial building of some sort…
I really love this building, sitting inside of it during the evening as the sun goes down, seeking refuge from the abusive heat in the long shadows. I leaned back against the wall and closed my eyes for a minute before I heard voices approaching. I made this photograph before I could be interrupted, and moved on.
Old and forgotten, then rediscovered. I shot this photograph as an exchange student 3 and a half years ago. I lost the roll of film, and found it in the bottom of a collection of “to-be-developed” rolls. I had no idea where, or when, it was from.
I processed it two days ago, and although resplendent with light leaks and dust, the negatives are good.

I shot this on Kodachrome last winter, right before the last lab handling the film switched off their processing lines.
Today, Kodak announced that their Ektachrome films will no longer be made.
My heart aches for Ektachrome 64. Thankfully I have a small stash of it in my fridge at home…

When I was in Finland this past summer, I had a chance to go with one of my former host families to their friend’s summer cottage. As an exchange student, I became good friends with these particular family friends of theirs, so it was a real pleasure being able to see them again.
I shot this while all the children were playing together. There was a raw element of youthful innocence in their interactions that reminded me of being 5 or 6 years old, playing with my older brother when we used to have a small weekend place out in the Hamptons.
Oh, and this is on extremely expired AGFA color negative film, it didn’t take to much of a nudge to get the colors to where they are now. I wish a color negative film that looked like this by default were made…

This is from a pretty thin negative, and it has always given me trouble whenever I’ve tried to scan or print it, due to the fact it was shot under absolutely abysmal lighting conditions.
So, for the first time ever, here we are, and it actually looks good.
I love the mix of orange and blue…
